Convention with Gabe

Cassian's waiting at the counter for Gabe, today should be a good day for him to see the convention. And Gabe's eye for weapons will be useful for looking into the shadier deals that are happening and where Yamato's cover will stand out a little too much.

Cassian's dressed in his Willix cover of a neat blue suit.

"Plasma based?" He knows projectiles aren't common here and tries to think of the equivalent to penetration. He starts to put a little longing on his face, trying to show he's interested but still having to hold back for some reason. "What are they rated for?"

The salesperson pats one rocket, "This is our best plasma torpedo, it will take down any shield as easily as cracking an egg. One of our most popular weapons for our ships. If you want something more handheld, I recommend our plasma wave blaster."

As the salesperson talks, Cassian makes careful notes about what's being sold.

He looks intrigued and starts to reach out to touch the blaster, then stops glancing up at the salesperson for permission.

"Does the wave configuration interfere with accuracy at all?"

"Its not our most accurate weapon, that would be a rifle but it can take down up to three targets at once."

The salesperson nods because of course he can handle it.

Gabriel knows his way around a weapon and he picks it up with practiced ease, careful to keep it pointed safely. It feels light but most things do these days.

"In a line or abreast? And what does it do to droids?"

The last is asked with keen interest as he allows his significant bias towards machines to show through.

"In a line, it will take them down as long as their armor isn't too heavy."

The droid comment is telling and the salesperson looks over their weapons once more.

Gabriel allows a grin to crack his features. That is legitimately hella tempting and the longing look on his face increases slightly. Reluctantly he puts the weapon back down and places a hand on the rocket. He doesn't try to lift it, though, he has no idea how heavy it's supposed to be.

"And this you said cracks any shield but does it do damage beyond that or do I need a secondary weapons system? What do you recommend?"

Before the salesperson can answer, the partitions of the booth are moved apart and there's the distinctive clunk of boots.

Cassian concentrates intensely on his datapad to hide his face as an Imperial officer enters, "I had an appointment."

Gabriel looks annoyed at the rudeness before he turns to see who's interrupting.

Oh.

His face instantly goes neutral respectful, hiding his wariness. He offers a controlled, polite smile to the salesperson, taking note of their reaction to this. "Another time, perhaps," he says with a hint of regret, stepping back from the case.

As Gabe gets ready to leave, Cassian stands up to shadow him, when the salesperson offers a small package to him, "A small gift and I hope that you might come back at some point."

The officer scoffs at the salesperson though Cassian gives them a small smile before moving out of the booth.

Gabriel accepts the package with a nod and tucks it under his arm. "My thanks." He'll open it later, right now he feels like it's an excellent time to leave.

He gives the Imperial officer a wide berth while trying not to seem too skittish. Or at least not any more skittish than a civilian who was just perusing illegal weapons should be.

Outside the booth, Cassian heads down an aisle to a quieter space. Though as he goes, he does note the various ranks and then looks over at Gabe, "Liking what you see?"

"Some of it," Gabriel allows, eyes scanning the hall and its contents. Then he allows a little grin to come through as he glances at Cassian, breaking character slightly. "All of it, really. I appreciate you showing me around."

He lets it fade again as they keep walking.

"Was that what we needed to find or are there more displays to see?"

"That was more than I was hoping for. We can walk around as long as you want to. And there will also be a race that Master Ilo's going to be in. An unexpected complication came up but it should be a fun race."

He didn't expect to have proof of the Empire using that weapons manufacturer but it provides a useful avenue to pursue.

Holy shit, Yamato's racing here? Jealous.

"I'd enjoy that quite a bit. I've never seen one in person before."

"It should be an exciting race using one of the ships here."

He pulls up a holo of the ship with all its shiny cladding.

"Mm." Yep, jealous.

"Has Ilo flown these often?" How many times has Yamato been out here?

[childofrebellion]

"No, this is his first time having a chance to pilot here."

That's a vague enough statement while still being true. This is Yamato's first time flying but his second in the galaxy.

Gabriel gives him a sidelong look. Cassian just means Yamato hasn't flown in a race before, right? Didn't Yamato only just start the flight school thing?

"I expect he prepped for this for some time." He's practiced somehow, right, Cassian?

"Yes, as much time as he's been able to. The race wasn't planned."

Yamato's been training as a pilot so this wasn't out of nowhere. This just heightened everything.

That's...well, he supposes that will have to do. It's a little late to back out now.

"He'll likely upset a few bookies, then," Gabe says, sounding confident.

"He has and he's a natural pilot." Cassian trusts that Yamato can do it.

"When are the races supposed to start?" He likes to try and keep a timetable in his head. "And which one is Master Ilo in?"

"Only one race and its in a few days time."

[sticktothemission]

"How many pilots, then?"

If it's the big capstone event he expects quite a few. Steep competition for Yamato, then.
