Adventures with Kay and Sombra

Cassian rested his hand on his pistol blaster in his bag as he walked towards the ship. It would be good to get off this spaceport as there were more refugees and smugglers, a dangerous combination. A delicious smell surprised him and Cassian stopped to near the doorway as a voice called out, "Everyone must eat. Do you want to spend your time hungry in hyperspace?"

There wasn't much in the ship and it would be good to prepare before the next mission which had tight timing. He opened the door to find Milliways, another good option.

Cassian smiles to himself as he changes out of his leather jacket into his flight vest and puts everything away,

"No, she doesn't. She likes you. Let's get ready to go."

"It doesn't sound like they are friends at all," Kay comments before walking away to take his seat in the co-pilots chair.

"Why is she here?" Kay asks Cassian, and it could be Kay is trying to ask the question as an aside, but while he speaks only to Cassian, Kay's voice doesn't lower any.

Sombra leans closer to Cassian, giving a loud stage-whisper.

"He is sounding more and more like my friend every minute, don't you think?"

What?

Between them, Cassian starts pre-flight,

"Sombra is an excellent slicer and I owed her a flight. You have odd friends."

Kay's expression can't change, but he somehow still gives the air of being baffled.

"You are a very strange person," Kay decides, and informs Sombra of his decision.

With that declared, he starts prepping them for flight.

"Like calls to like, no?" Sombra asks, directing a sunny smile first at Kay, then at Cassian.

She also takes this moment to ruffle Cassian's hair, because he is right there. And it is funny.

Cassian moves his hand up to straighten his hair,

"Why do you keep doing that? You might want to find a seat or something to hold onto. Kay, are we all clear to leave? No new alerts?"

"We are clear for take-off," Kay replies. "No new alerts or bulletins."

"I do that because the face you make is very funny," Sombra says honestly.

Then she flops into a seat, looking for fasteners to hold herself in place.

"We are going to do the mission planning on the way, I take it?"

There are some belts but not a lot. Cassian sighs as they get the all clear from the port and take off. As they leave the atmosphere, there’s a shift before jumping to hyperspace.

Once they’re clear in hyperspace, Cassian turns and gets out his datapad to pull up the information, “We’ve planned it, you’ll be an added help for any infiltration.”

Kay's head turns in surprise.

"She is going to come on the mission? I do not think that is wise."

"Wisdom does not have much to do with me, I am afraid."

Sombra beams cheerfully, wiggling her fingers in Kay's direction.

"And I will not be seen -- by eye or by sensors -- unless I choose to be. Budget electronics are no match for my programs."

"The risks should be manageable, Kay and nothing we do is wise. We know the rotation and what security to expect and Sombra's an excellent slicer,"

He pulls up a map of the base with details of security, which isn't in use anymore though is set to be. That means a chance to get new and old intel as well as some supplies.

"I have already completed my calculations for the probabilities of success on this mission. Now, with a new element, I shall have to recalculate," he says with an air of disapproval.

"Are your cloaking capabilities as good as you say?" he asks Sombra, because that will factor into his figures.

Sombra isn't there.

Cassian stays still and tries to see if he can figure out if Sombra's moving as she hides, "They are. I wouldn't bring her if she wouldn't be an asset."

Kay scans the area and finds he is unable to locate her.

"Alright, that is a bit impressive." But just a bit.

Sombra fades back into existence out of her seat in the rear of the cabin, draped over a few pieces of equipment.

She's tossing a hand-sized metal contraption back and forth between her hands. She loves her translocator so much. (Thanks Winston! And Tracer!)

"Oh sweet, sweet Kay. You have not seen anything yet."

Cassian smiles at Kay, he likes Sombra calling Kay sweet, “I told you that she’ll be helpful.”

"I did not see anything," Kay acknowledges, then asks Cassian, "Was that not the point of her demonstration?"

Sombra laughs, the sound coming from low in her throat.

"It was, indeed, my friend. But there are a great many more things I can do that no one will ever see me accomplish. And to think, you have all of that at your command, for one day only!"

This is gonna be great!

“We’re lucky. This is where we’re headed. Its a base that’s been used on and off since the Clone Wars and for now isn’t,”

He stands up to hand her his datapad.

Kay draws back and processes Sombra's words for a moment.

She is a curious person, but Kay is beginning to lose his objections to her.

"I believe I now have sufficient data to make my calculations by."

"Excellent!"

Sombra beams at both Cassian and Kay, reaching out and making a grabby-hands gesture at the datapad.

"Will you tell us the new percentages, Kay? I promise I will be listening, even as I will also be going over this data."

Base schematics, last known uses, software and hardware updates and ages -- she's looking for all of this, and a little bit more besides. Just to know which programs and algorithms to tuck at the top of her queue.

At her reaching hands, Cassian beams as he hands the datapad over, “Sombra should have decreased a few of the risks.”
