A trip with Yamato

"No, I'm not talking to anyone unless they have a performer with them and the cantina is closed." The door slammed behind the angry Shistavanen and Cassian winced from where he watching across the street.

His asset couldn't meet him if the cantina wasn't open as they worked in there. He needed some way to convince the owner and started to walk around the block, opening a door that turned into Milliways.

He opens his mouth and considers what to say before nodding.

"You're on my team out here, we look out for each other. We'll swing back around. There's a back entrance to the patrol house which is near the factory. We should be able to learn what's going on the fastest there."

"Sounds like a plan," Yamato says, flashing a quick grin. "Lead the way."

They continue to thread through back streets but close enough to the main throughfare to hear yelling. He hopes this isn't turning into a riot, they can go badly fast.

They reach the back of an alley with a fence. "How are you at climbing?"

"Good enough," Yamato says, looking one way and then the other before clambering up the fence, just high enough to peek over the top for now.

Beside him, Cassian climbs the fence and points to a window at about their level.

"Storage room for local patrols. We can find out exactly where that officer's stationed and what they're doing."

"Sounds good."

Yamato clambers up onto the top of the fence, reaching forward to carefully try the window. He expects it to be locked, but if it is, he's fairly sure Cassian will have a plan for that.

The window rattles, the lock doesn't sit properly. "Give it a push there and it will open."

Cassian points to a spot slightly to the left of Yamato's hand as he prepares a disruptor.

Yamato does what Cassian says, pushing at the spot to slide the window open, then leaning forward to peer inside.

"Don't go in yet." He tosses the disruptor and the lights flicker. "Now we'll see what we can find."

Cassian moves to join Yamato, slipping in first and pulling out a tiny flashlight. Inside there are cabinets, old equipment and a screen set near a wall.

Yamato whistles a quick tune under his breath, summoning a small flashlight from his sylladex and switching it on as he slips into the room.

"All right, time to sort through paperwork," he murmurs.

"I'll slice the computer, you see what you can find in the cabinets."

The Empire loves their records.

Yamato gives a quick nod, and starts working his way through the cabinets, hunting down personnel files first. There's a brief moment, reading the covers, where he can't make heads or tails of the Aurebesh alphabet, before his head spins a little and his eyes refocus, and suddenly interpreting it is a whole lot easier.

(While Yamato doesn't notice it at all, there's a brief but sharp drop in temperature throughout the room as he reads the first few, a momentary cold snap focused around the boy's chest.)

"Got personnel files on all currently serving officers here," he says, after a few minutes. "Let's see if I can't find a name."

He starts flicking through, skimreading.

Cassian's quickly typing and pulling up the surveillance records of the factory. As he searches, he finds a missing spot watching one of the loading bays.

On the other hand, the interior records show the effects of the discovery; the entire factory being called together to be dressed down. There's not enough proof for real arrests which is why they spread into the town. "Whoever did this was good."

He feels the cold and looks around, that could be a sign of environmental controls.

"Might be a potential ally," Yamato notes, arching an eyebrow. "If they're competent enough, they could be a useful asset."

He reads a little more of the records he's holding, then holds out the file. "Found our mystery officer. One Jasreth Lowe."

"Depends what they want." Outside the clomp of boots gets louder. He moves over to look at the officer's file and goes to the computer to try and pull her up and copy all the intel he can. "That's our cue to leave."

"If we want to take this file with us, I'm pretty sure I can hide it in my sylladex," Yamato says, moving towards the window.

"Can't risk it, another theft would be too suspicious. I've been able to get a fair amount from here and have other ways to search."

There's a bang as a door below is opened and then many people start to enter.

Yamato gives a quick nod, and slides the file back where he found it, then clambers out the window, making a neat hop over to the wall beyond.

As he leaves, something finishes uploading to the computer and Cassian shuts the window behind him.

Then he joins Yamato on the wall as the door opens with a grumble from a 'trooper. "There are too many forms."

Yamato drops down the wall, out of view, but he makes sure to listen in on what the 'troopers are saying. They might not say anything worth hearing, but he figures he should listen just in case.

Once they're beyond the wall, its harder to hear them, their voice boxes distort what they say.

Cassian waits just on the other side, trying to listen as well, all that can be heard is. "Good haul. We'll get someone to show off to her."

"Sounds like they're planning to pin it on whoever they can," Yamato mutters, folding his arms.

"That's how they work and people are afraid to fight or say anything as it could be them next time."

He looked up, he hated this kind of mission where he can't do enough. "We should get out of here."

Yamato sighs. "Yeah, not much we can do while they're rooting around in there. Did you at least get some useful stuff?"

He starts heading away, sticking to walls, keeping an ear out for anyone approaching.

"I did and left them a few problems on our way out. I'll be able to see better what I have when there's time to search it."

The streets have an uncomfortable energy to them from everyone's fear and Cassian slowly works them out of the downtown towards the port.
