Mission with Yamato

Cassian reviews the mission briefing and identicard that he's put together for Yamato. This is the sort of mission that he needs Yamato's skills for, but he wants to insure that Yamato has all of the intel before he agrees to anything.

He sips his caf at the counter as he waits and adjusts some code on his datapad.

It's set up a little differently from the jets and starfighters that Yamato's used to practising with in the sims back at Milliways, but that's fine -- it's still fun, and a certain lack of adroitness is good for his cover.

The route offers opportunities to swoop through canyons and really enjoy the speed.

Outside the Corellians are talking with Cassian about how good Yamato is, his fast learning is impressive.

Yamato's aware he has to remain somewhat composed in his reactions, but he's having a lot of fun, swooping through the canyons and around obstacles.

-- And, admittedly, sometimes just skimming a little too close to something dangerous so that he can then dodge around it at the last second. For the sport of it all.

He could allow some enjoyment or appreciation to come through, that would be in character. Cassian winces at some of those close calls.

As Yamato just about reaches the end (complete with another deliberate near-miss of an obstacle) the sim, he lands the simulated ship and leans back, flashing a quick smile.

"A rather splendid simulation of yours," he remarks to the shipbuilders, rising out of his seat.

"We can provide you with a catalog and more information if you would be interested in purchasing one,"

They start pulling up their sales pitch as Cassian smiles, being the secretary at the ready.

Yamato knows he can't buy one, but maybe Cassian will have some use for a catalog, and if not (and Yamato suspects that it's more likely he won't), it can't hurt to humour them.

"I will certainly take a catalog. We're always in the market for new ships, after all."

Cassian takes the offered catalog with a smile and a bow.

Then starts to move out of the booth and toward one of the outer edges where there's a shadow cast by a
ship hanging above them.

It affords a measure of privacy as does a corner created by the backs of a few booths. Cassian asks a question that won't cause too many questions, "What do you think so far?"

Yamato cocks his head, considering his words carefully. On the off chance someone does overhear them, then anything he says has to be plausible as something his cover would say.

"The security certainly seems eager," he remarks, flicking his gaze over to some stormtroopers. "But I suppose it's a sign of the times."

He pauses, thinking.

"That dear fellow -- ah, what was his name. The fellow with the cladding," he says, glancing over towards Pan's booth. "He could certainly be useful. I imagine with his work, he'll be making all sorts of business inroads within the Empire."

Or to put it another way, any business links he makes with Imperials could yield some useful intel.

"I'm glad that you think so. He gave us some good information to consider. Would you like to get something more substantial to eat? I know a number of different options."

Where they can have a measure of privacy or it might be time to get what they can at the hotel.

"You know me too well. I could use a slightly more filling meal than what they offered on the shuttle."

"Then I'll take you someplace that I think you will appreciate." He starts to head out of the hall and to a small restaurant that's hidden between many buildings.

The clientele is a surprising mixture of various classes, not a fancy place but the smells promise delicious food.

Given how much of an asshole Yamato's cover has been so far, he should probably be complaining about how low-end this place is, but that would be making a scene, which would entirely defeat the point of coming here in the first place.

"That food does smell good," he says, mildly, "I must admit."

The owner, a tired looking older woman gestures them to a table in the corner, "It is. Two evening specials and two ales, please?"

She nods and soon returns with a plate full of a roast bird with beautiful glazed and crispy skin, an assortment of vegetables and two sauces.

Yamato has to physically force down the urge to offer help -- the owner looks tired, after all -- and instead settles at the table.

"Thank you," he says to her, once the food arrives, bowing his head a touch. "The food looks delicious."

She returns the bow with a little smile, "Eat your dinner and use a napkin."

Cassian smiles to her as well and says, "I've missed your food."

That gets a laugh as she turns to go help other diners.

"Friend of yours?" Yamato asks, once she's gone.

'Yours' in this case could mean Cassian's or Willix's, depending on exactly where one demarcates the difference between Cassian and his cover in this instance.

"I try to eat here whenever I'm on planet. Her food is always good and the location is useful."

Cassian traces an alliance symbol in the condensation of his ale.

"It is, at that," Yamato says, relaxing just a little bit. "Close to everything that's going on, but hidden enough that nobody's going to accidentally stumble across it unless they're really lost."

Or specifically looking for it.

The table offers privacy and the space is one where no one listens too much to anyone else,

"Yes, a friend recommended it to me."

"They've clearly got an eye for good cafes," Yamato notes, wryly, as he starts to dig into his food.

"They do. They're good places to know how to find."

Cassian's spent a lot of time in places like this and noisier, dangerous ones.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"So, how do you think the convention's been going so far?"

Yamato means in terms of how useful it's been, but if Cassian wants to geek out over ships, that's fine too in his books.

"I'm pleased with what we've seen and hope to learn more. That sim was one of the nicest I've ever seen. Was it as nice to fly in?"

Here they can be a little more open but Cassian's careful to not say too much.

Yamato cracks a momentary grin, ducking his head just a little.

"It was. I had a lot of fun with that," he says. "Thank you for arranging that."
