Convention with Yamato II

A nice benefit of this hotel is they will bring caf up to their room in the morning along with breakfast to give them some privacy in the mornings.

Cassian has pulled up the itinerary of the day, "Part of our entry allows access to the hangar with the ships and that's up for today. So you can properly look into the engines."

"If you're curious, we can check the bounties and see who they're after."

He tries to watch who's listed but it tends to be an odd mixture of who the Empire wants, those who are unlucky and those who are dangerous criminals.

"-- Could be an interesting diversion," Yamato admits. "Although I guess we probably should be focusing on the race. But sure, may as well, right?"

"When we're at the hangar, I'll show you."

Its not really in his cover's line of work to follow bounties. They're almost back and this time Cassian takes them in by a smaller side door.

Yamato gives a quick nod, following Cassian through the side door, keeping a watchful eye out for anyone who seems to be taking too much of an interest in them.

No one is other than a few casual glances as they make their way to the ship. Pan's put up a notice to try and restrict some access to the ship along with a partial screen to block the engine area.

Once he's behind the screen, Cassian does a quick search for surveillance before stripping off his jacket and getting the engine plate off. It would be useful to have an astromech but they would need a trustworthy one.

Yamato settles a little ways behind Cassian, looking over the engine but not offering any help.

The ship straight up isn't large enough to have them both fiddling about with the engine at the same time, he's pretty sure, and it makes miles more sense to have Cassian doing the engine-fiddling.

"How does it look?"

Cassian pulls up the engine specs that Pan gave him to compare,

"It looks good, very new. I wonder how often its been flown."

"Probably not often. Seems like this convention is part of its grand unveiling to the public," Yamato says. "So maybe a few test pilots, but it might not even have been through the full battery of tests yet."

"More information to get from Pan, I need to borrow his 'pad."

That way he can extract all that he needs.

"He better be willing to hand it over," Yamato mutters. "We're doing this all for his sake, after all, the least he can do is be cooperative."

"I might be able to get the info without him."

After all there is a display computer near the ship. Cassian moves down the ladder and starts tapping through to see what's available and what he needs to dig to find.

Yamato ambles up behind him, peering over his shoulder.

"Any luck?"

"Hand me the datapad," He needs to get deeper and has some tricks on his 'pad.

"Here," Yamato says, picking up the datapad and holding it out.

Cassian takes the datapad and connects it to the screen and then smiles as he's able to get deeper, "Not a lot of test flights."

"How many? And what were the results?"

[childofrebellion]

With some more slicing and a wait while a few files transfer, Cassian pulls up the breakdown,

"About ten with some close calls due to that handling and the engine going too fast at the wrong times."

"The handling I can deal with, if I have to," Yamato says. "But an engine that suddenly accelerates when I don't want it to is a huge problem. If it kicks off and gives me an unexpected speed boost in that industrial area or the cave, I'll end up smeared all over the ground."

"I think I can fix it. It looks like its attached to a regulator. If I can bypass it then there will be more control on the engine."

"Good, let's make that priority one, then," Yamato says, shaking his head. "Because that's the kind of flaw that turns this from a ship into an exciting flying coffin."

"It won't be."

Then he tugs off his jacket and folds it before rolling up his sleeves and starting to look at the engine.

The problem with this being a display area is the tools aren't easily laid out. So Cassian has to come down again to see where Pan's hidden them.

Yamato casts around the tools, before eventually locating a small metal box stowed out of the way.

"Here," he says, opening it. "Just say when you want one, and I'll pass it up to you. When you're asking for one, you might want to describe it, though."

Yamato knows tools, but he's not confident he can correctly identify a sci-fi space tool based on name alone.

Cassian leans down to look over what's in the toolbox and grabs something that resembles a wrench. Then he balances the datapad with the engine plans on the ladder and gets to work. Partway through, he mutters a curse in Fest as something sparks at him.

He emerges with a singe on one of his eyebrows, "Hand me that small spanner, the one with the blue handle."

"Here," Yamato says, holding the blue handled spanner up to him. "How's it going up there?"

"Pretty well though I don't understand all of their choices in this engine."

He grabs the spanner and gets back in which makes the engine seem to growl at him as it rattles.
