Mission with Yamato

Cassian reviews the mission briefing and identicard that he's put together for Yamato. This is the sort of mission that he needs Yamato's skills for, but he wants to insure that Yamato has all of the intel before he agrees to anything.

He sips his caf at the counter as he waits and adjusts some code on his datapad.

"Do you prefer any particular design?"

Pan leans forward and almost spins the projected images. Cassian smiles into his datapad.

All right, may as well be honest.

"Something with speed and manoeuvrability, ideally. I cannot stand those stodgy puddle jumpers some people like to fly."

"I think you'd enjoy our Inko class model, we call it the Starspeeder," Pan brings up an image of a ship that's all sleek lines and starts to reel off a list of specs.

Yamato leans forward a little, raising a hand to rotate the image around, looking at it from all angles as he listens to Pan's list of specs.

"An intriguing proposition, certainly."

"You'd have to come to our factory to try it but we're happy with its possibilities," Pan brings up the interior images of the ship.

In the hall, there's the sound of raised voices and Cassian stands up to peer around the wall to see if they need to be worried. The entourages of a criminal cartel either Hutt or possibly Black Sun is facing off with a couple of TIE pilots.

Yamato's eyes flick over to the wall, then to Cassian, then back to Pan. Those raised voices are concerning, but he trusts Cassian to say if there's something they need to be concerned about.

"I would be honoured to pay your factory a visit. Or at least send a representative, should my schedule not allow for it," he says to Pan. "No doubt Willix can make all the arrangements with you."

Cassian's tensed and Pan looks up and over, there are sounds that only those who serve in the Empire make.

No blaster fire yet but the voices continue to be raised as the voice of a protocol droid can be heard trying to calm everyone down.

"Begging your pardon," Yamato says to Pan, setting his tea down and standing, approaching Cassian at the wall.

He leans in close enough that Pan -- and anybody else -- won't be able to hear them, whispering: "Someone get on the Empire's bad side?"

Before Cassian has a chance to answer, a punch is thrown. Then one of the TIE pilots fires a blaster, winging the shoulder of the Rodian who threw the punch, "That's enough."

The quiet falls abruptly as everyone is suddenly somewhere else and Cassian moves back so that the pilots don't see him looking.

Yamato draws back as well, heading back towards Pan.

"Perhaps," he says, rather airily, as though the scuffle outside doesn't bother him at all, "that concludes our business for the moment."

Pan nods, "Yes, I think that would be best. Please contact me if there's anything I can do for you."

Cassian gives a small nod and bow to Pan then looks to Yamato to let him give their goodbye.

"I'm sure we'll be in touch," Yamato says, with the briefest of bows. "Until then, do stay safe."

With that done, he gives Cassian a quick, somewhat imperious -- they do still have appearances to keep up, after all -- nod, to indicate they should get going.

Cassian backs up to give Yamato the lead once more but still being close by. Now the hall is quieter as no one wants too much attention brought to them. The 'troopers are more obvious now in their perimeter.

Yamato takes a moment to register each of the stormtroopers' locations and routes, then sighs quietly.

"Well, the man was a dreadful boor, Willix," he says, airily, keeping his voice quiet. "But we may have acquired something of use."

He doesn't quite pat the pocket where the datachip they were given is, but he makes tiny gesture towards it with two fingers.

"I hope so, sir. I believe that one of the Corellian shipbuilders is offering a sim of one of their new designs tonight. It will be available later but I thought it would be an informative opportunity."

Cassian gestures to one of the shipbuilders that's not as gaudy with some prototypes in shapes that might look familiar to Yamato.

"Informative, certainly," Yamato says, giving the shipbuilder's a quick glance. The shapes look vaguely familiar? But then, Yamato's never really kept up with any kind of pop culture, even the big, classic movies.

"For the moment, then, do we have anything scheduled?"

"No and I told them to expect you so you should have a seat."

It was something that Cassian thought Yamato would enjoy. And a useful way to get a closer look at what the Corellians are working on.

"Good work, Willix," Yamato says, approaching the shipbuilders and taking a seat, folding his arms and shutting his eyes. He keeps listening to the convention, tracking people by their footfalls. With this many people moving about, it's somewhat difficult, but at least the stormtroopers' boots make a distinctive sound.

The Corellians are efficient and talk with Cassian before saying, "We have an opening for you."

The sim is a thing of beauty, sleek with comfortable chairs and even the console is elegant.

"Splendid," Yamato says, heading inside the sim.

He does take a few moments to skim his fingers over the chairs and console, just taking it all in. It really is nice, he has to admit.

The sim is set up as a combination race and tour around a moon in a ship that's built for speed. Outside the sim, Cassian smiles as he sits off to the side observing everything about them.

It's set up a little differently from the jets and starfighters that Yamato's used to practising with in the sims back at Milliways, but that's fine -- it's still fun, and a certain lack of adroitness is good for his cover.

The route offers opportunities to swoop through canyons and really enjoy the speed.

Outside the Corellians are talking with Cassian about how good Yamato is, his fast learning is impressive.

Yamato's aware he has to remain somewhat composed in his reactions, but he's having a lot of fun, swooping through the canyons and around obstacles.

-- And, admittedly, sometimes just skimming a little too close to something dangerous so that he can then dodge around it at the last second. For the sport of it all.

He could allow some enjoyment or appreciation to come through, that would be in character. Cassian winces at some of those close calls.
