Convention with Yamato II

A nice benefit of this hotel is they will bring caf up to their room in the morning along with breakfast to give them some privacy in the mornings.

Cassian has pulled up the itinerary of the day, "Part of our entry allows access to the hangar with the ships and that's up for today. So you can properly look into the engines."

Cassian nods with a small smile, "Yes, the first time you leave atmo is hard to beat."

Yamato laughs a little. "Well, it's not exactly likely I'll ever do that in my world. Becoming an astronaut is even more difficult than becoming a fighter pilot."

"Oh, I hope you can get a chance to,"

Yamato's determined at getting what he wants and a good pilot.

Yamato laughs a little, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I'm not even sure that going to space is where I want to go with my career. But it's not like I have to decide now, anyway -- you need to be a pilot for a solid decade before they even consider you, and it's not like I've even heard back about my application for that yet."

Although that much is not unusual. He only sent it off in the Spring, after all, it'd be too soon to have heard anything yet.

"Then you can use here to prepare and show off how much you know. We should head back."

Cassian has a lot of trust in Yamato's ability and his ability to learn.

"I guess we should, before Pan gets roughed up again by more goons," Yamato says ruefully, downing the rest of his caf.

"Don't invite trouble, we have enough."

Cassian says as he gets up with a sigh.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Fair point," Yamato laughs, standing up as well. "I'm sure the guy will be fine. Probably giving someone a scintillating sales pitch about cladding as we speak."

"I hope so, that would be a fairly safe place for him to be."

Cassian can hope that Pan won't find more trouble but he's not too optimistic.

"At the very least, he's not going to get killed until after the race. Stay of execution by virtue of it being more entertaining for whatever Hutt he pissed off to see his chances literally crash and burn."

Although Yamato's very much hoping that doesn't happen.

"Not Jabba which is a small mercy."

As they head to the hangar, Cassian keeps an eye on the crowd to see if they've picked up any tails.

"Is Jabba the worst one, then?" Yamato asks, cocking his head. "What makes him so bad?"

Yamato's keeping an eye on the crowd as well, just in case.

"Richest and most powerful one at the moment. The various criminal cartels are always trading around power along with the Empire."

At this point, no one's following them but they do pass two bounty hunters discussing jobs.

"Ah, that kind of situation."

Yamato doesn't stop, but he does prick an ear slightly to the bounty hunters' conversation, just to see if they're talking about anything of interest to him.

"I thought they were going to be here. I was looking to collect,"

One of the bounty hunters, a lizard looking one hisses and grumbles.

Cassian shifts enough as they walk by to see the bounty is a human face he doesn't know.

Yamato files them away in his head, just in case he needs to worry about them later. Part of him is concerned that maybe whoever it is they're after is someone who needs help, but -- one distressed person in need of saving at a time. Pan takes priority for the moment.

"They seem to be having a bad day," he murmurs to Cassian once they're out of earshot.

"They'll be fine, bounty hunters usually are."

And they'll happily come after rebels as well as another bounty.

"I wasn't exactly worried about them," Yamato notes wryly.

[childofrebellion]

"If you're curious, we can check the bounties and see who they're after."

He tries to watch who's listed but it tends to be an odd mixture of who the Empire wants, those who are unlucky and those who are dangerous criminals.

"-- Could be an interesting diversion," Yamato admits. "Although I guess we probably should be focusing on the race. But sure, may as well, right?"

"When we're at the hangar, I'll show you."

Its not really in his cover's line of work to follow bounties. They're almost back and this time Cassian takes them in by a smaller side door.

Yamato gives a quick nod, following Cassian through the side door, keeping a watchful eye out for anyone who seems to be taking too much of an interest in them.

No one is other than a few casual glances as they make their way to the ship. Pan's put up a notice to try and restrict some access to the ship along with a partial screen to block the engine area.

Once he's behind the screen, Cassian does a quick search for surveillance before stripping off his jacket and getting the engine plate off. It would be useful to have an astromech but they would need a trustworthy one.

Yamato settles a little ways behind Cassian, looking over the engine but not offering any help.

The ship straight up isn't large enough to have them both fiddling about with the engine at the same time, he's pretty sure, and it makes miles more sense to have Cassian doing the engine-fiddling.

"How does it look?"

Cassian pulls up the engine specs that Pan gave him to compare,

"It looks good, very new. I wonder how often its been flown."
