Adventures with Kay and Sombra

Cassian rested his hand on his pistol blaster in his bag as he walked towards the ship. It would be good to get off this spaceport as there were more refugees and smugglers, a dangerous combination. A delicious smell surprised him and Cassian stopped to near the doorway as a voice called out, "Everyone must eat. Do you want to spend your time hungry in hyperspace?"

There wasn't much in the ship and it would be good to prepare before the next mission which had tight timing. He opened the door to find Milliways, another good option.

A rat arrives with a heaping plate of tamales and Cassian starts eating,

"Liberating some intel and supplies from a base that's not completely in use. Its currently closed down for repairs."

"Minimal security presence? Or omnic -- droid, I mean to say -- security forces?"

This could be important!

"Mainly some droids and surveillance with a few fly-bys of ships in the area but they don't come in too close."

[messwiththebest]

"The droids I can work with. The surveillance flights might be a bit more tricky."

Alas.

[childofrebellion]

"I can handle those, its all in the timing. They're not scanning deeply, just checking that nothing's on fire."

Sombra' smile is more like a smirk this time.

"Then I will make doubly sure that nothing is burning."

[childofrebellion]

"We all will. Kay's good at showing their scanners what they want to see. These are delicious."

[messwiththebest]

"Of course they are," Sombra says, laughing.

"Though I did not make them myself."

[childofrebellion]

He nods before starting on another one,

"I'll have to see about making them sometime. How's your work going?"

[messwiththebest]

Sombra laughs, raking her fingers through the long side of her hair.

"The Boss is back, which means some people are in a lot of trouble. Not me, of course."

But the people who were trying to take Doomfist's position and authority? They're not a problem anymore. For anyone.

"Why would anyone be in trouble? Not following orders?"

That's usually what causes problems in the Rebellion, unclear chains of command. Its hard to imagine Sombra obeying anyone.

"Mmm. That is one way to put it!"

Attempting to subvert Talon to his own purposes is most likely where the problem elements went wrong. Akande is not really fond of that sort of thing.

"Then how would you put it?"

She's never shared that much about who she works with and he's curious.

[messwiththebest]

"You know, I am not entirely sure! Attempting to subvert the chain of command?"

She says it innocently enough. Military parlance is not entirely correct in this situation, but it will do.

Cassian leans back with an impressed look, that's not easy to do,

"Kriff, but it didn't work?"

[messwiththebest]

Sombra scoffs.

"The rest of us are too clever for such things. But it was entertaining to see how deep the hole he dug for himself would go!"

Right off a bridge, honestly.

[childofrebellion]

"Are such things needed? And now he's dead?"

That's the usual punishment and what Cassian faces whenever he's undercover as an Imperial.

"Mmm. I am not the best one to judge. It is messy for my tastes, but that is why I occupy the space I do, in my work."

Is that convoluted enough? One can hope!

Over a bite of tamale, Cassian gives her a thoughtful look as that was incredibly opaque,

"And that's as the one who gets everywhere?"

"No, no, that is someone else entirely. I'm the one that knows everything."

She is also the one that gets everywhere, but that is in more of an unofficial capacity. Personal projects, you know.

"You mean there's someone even better than you at getting into places?"

He has a measure of awe and surprise in his voice as she's very good. With her invisibility, that seems hard to believe but there's a lot he doesn't know about her world.

"He is a cloud of nanites. It helps."

Sombra sniffs.

[childofrebellion]

"Nanites like nano-droids? That would provide many options."

[messwiththebest]

She smiles very sweetly.

"Wouldn't it just."

[childofrebellion]

He nods and finishes off the last tamale,

"Yes though droids are still droids and have programming."
