Mission with Yamato

Cassian reviews the mission briefing and identicard that he's put together for Yamato. This is the sort of mission that he needs Yamato's skills for, but he wants to insure that Yamato has all of the intel before he agrees to anything.

He sips his caf at the counter as he waits and adjusts some code on his datapad.

"Yes, sir."

There's the strange sensation as they leave hyperspace and Cassian gets the bags as the landing announcement begins including one to keep your identicards at the ready.

Yamato makes sure he has his identicard to hand, then gives Cassian a quick nod, just to show he's ready.

Since they're about to be heading out to where people can see them, he also dials up that authoritative aura he has again, to maximum 'everyone must obey me immediately' levels.

And Cassian shrinks down as they exit the ship into a busy spaceport. Various speeders are lined up and Cassian spots one connected to the hotel they're staying at.

The speeder takes them to an elegant and busy hotel, which is full of signs for the convention that's nearby. Mainly humans with a few aliens, the Empire has a strong hold on Jelucan but the convention brings them in.

At the desk, Cassian checks them in, it was a clever bit of slicing to get them into this hotel and convention and soon they're led to a suite, not the best but a nice one.

Yamato scans the suite with the same critical eye that he looked at the compartment with. In this case, though, he's also keeping an eye on all their exits, and any sightlines into and out of the suite.

"Ugh," he announces, eventually. Muttered: "My father will hear about this. It'll do, I suppose."

The suite is close to the exit stairs, technically its a corner which adds to the value, but also limits doors into the space.

The bellman at the door gives a nervous glance to Cassian who says while pressing a few credits into their hand, "Thank you."

As soon as the credits are grasped, the bellman bows themselves out.

Yamato doesn't watch the exchange, but he's listening intently, and still listening when the bellman bows himself out. If he shuts his eyes, he can even hear the foot traffic outside their room.

He makes sure not to drop character -- not unless Cassian indicates he can -- instead crossing to the window and peering out of it.

Once the door's closed, Cassian pulls out a small sensor from his pocket and starts checking for surveillance in the room.

Yamato turns his head, just keeping one eye on the sensor as it scans, but otherwise remaining still and silent.

Not too much comes up, a fairly obvious camera droid and then another that's more carefully hidden as well as one that does patrols of the entire building. Cassian points them out to Yamato as well as the convention set up next door.

No dropping the cover, then. Well, at least it's not too difficult to keep it up.

"How long until the convention starts?"

Cassian moves to start unpacking the bags and palms a disruptor so Yamato knows they have options,

"Tomorrow's the opening but there's a preview tonight of the exhibit hall."

Yamato notes the disruptor, flicking an eyebrow up a fraction of an inch.

"Splendid. I already weary of this room, Willix."

"Yes, sir," The disruptor disappears into his pocket before he heads out into the hall. This hotel has a hallway that connects to the convention center where Registration is fairly well run. With the kind of pass that Yamato has, people pay attention wondering who he might and how many credits he might have. Inside the hall, it looks like a carpeted hangar with ships, cross-sections of ships, other vehicles and every kind of accessory to go with them.

Mixing with the crowd are a few grey suited Imperials with stormtroopers visible at the perimeters but at the moment, there are no great shows of strength. Instead vendors are offering drinks and entertainment to entice anyone who passes them. The most elaborate booths even have private sitting areas so no one can see who's having a chat.

Okay. Okay. The engineering nerd in Yamato is freaking out right now, and he absolutely can't show it without breaking his cover. Look at all these ships.

More practically, the soldier in him notes the Imperials and stormtroopers, keeping track of their movements, quickly charting out the best ways to evade and escape if they need to.

"Is there anyone we're scheduled to see?" He asks Cassian, in a tone of complete boredom that pretty thoroughly masks how excited he is about all these ships.

"Yes, a manufacturer who's working on lighter weight cladding. Over this way, the first entry on your itinerary,"

The itinerary contains the cover information but within the smaller notes about this person might be a good contact are suggestive questions. Cassian's impressed once again with Yamato's control.

"Lighter weight cladding. Fascinating."

It actually is pretty fascinating, but Yamato's tone is dripping with sarcasm nonetheless.

He scans the itinerary, lifting an eyebrow a little as he takes all the information in. Briskly: "Well, let's not keep the fellow waiting."

"He's working on elegant ships like those that used to be built on Naboo. I know how you appreciate form and function working together."

Again he flips through the datapad to find an image of a sleek ship.

Grudgingly: "I do appreciate an appropriately beautiful ship."

... Oh god, that really is a pretty ship. If it actually flies fast, Yamato might be a little bit in love.

"Perhaps the fellow has some talent after all."

In a few steps, they approach the booth which is full of beautiful cladding, there's almost a mirror effect.

A well dressed and slightly nervous middle aged man spots them and gestures them over, "Mister Ilo and Willix, please come in. I've prepared your favorite tea and have some treats that I do hope you will enjoy."

Yamato touches a hand to his collarbone and bows, just a little, before straightening up.

"Very considerate of you. My thanks," he says, in a markedly more courteous tone than the one he's been talking to Cassian with.

The man, Otros Pan returns the bow and gestures into a room where all the surfaces that aren't soft use the cladding.

There are different colors, even inlays on the low table which has tea and a selection of small and elegant pastries. Cassian moves to sit in a bench that's almost hidden in the side of the space as a small droid appears with hot tea.

On one side of the table is a selection of claddings over a catalog for later, "I hope this meets your approval."

"Of course. The effort is very much appreciated," Yamato says, levelly. "I hope it wasn't too arduous to travel here and find accommodation? The convention seems like it will be rather busy this year."

"No, I was able to find something that works for me. What about you? Are you pleased with your hotel?"

Pan sits down across from Yamato with an attentive look as the droid pours out the tea, the flavor has sweet and smoky notes with a subtle flower taste.

"It is sufficient for my purposes," Yamato says, diplomatically. "Thank you."

He takes the tea, rather delicately, taking a few moments to inhale the aroma before taking a sip.

Around them its quiet though there is the tromp of 'trooper boots out beyond the room.

Pan tenses before drinking his own tea, turning the tiny cup in his hands.
